About the Artist

American Draughsman and Painter born in Dallas, Texas.

Since her early youth, Mariyn showed a natural artistic talent, with an inclination for painting and for the post-impressionist painters. She attended the University of Texas in the late 1960s. During her time there, she felt uninspired by the current painting approaches and technique, which focused mostly on non-representational art. As a true member of her generation she decided to leap into the unknown and experience the arts in her own way.

From the search for her style of painting, she conveys in her paintings the sensation of reality and the sincerity that can be found in simple aspects of life and its intricate circumstances. This search took Marilyn to Mexico, where she traveled extensively, absorbing the idiosyncrasy of the Mexican people through direct personal experience. It was during this time that she began her serious portrait work. You can see this flavor of the culture in some of her portraits.

Marilyn currently lives in Laurinburg, North Carolina. She continues to work and exhibit as well as teach art classes. At this time her concentration continues to be her love for portrait painting.
